Bharat Ratna for Netaji it is too late: Daughter | India News

KOLKATA: Subhas Chandra Bose’s daughter, Anita B Pfaff, has opposed the demand to confer Bharat Ratna on the iconic freedom fighter “now”, which she feels is “too late”. “We have refused to give Netaji the Bharat Ratna so late. Many shorter people have received the award. It would have been appropriate to give it to Netaji as one of the first recipients, but not now, ”he told TOI in an email interview.
Incidentally, former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao had proposed to confer Bharat Ratna on Netaji posthumously, declassified files on Netaji released in 2016 revealed. Pfaff has welcomed the formation of a high-level committee to mark the 125th anniversary of Netaji’s birth.
He also appreciated the renaming of the Howrah-Kalka Mail by Netaji. Pfaff commented on the difference of opinion on what January 23 should be called. “Two different institutions have chosen two different names. It will be preferable that they agree and coordinate, ”he said.

She hoped that attempts to mark Netaji’s 125th birthday would change the way his role in Indian history was “boiled down to being that man whose death people have arguments about.” Pfaff said she was convinced her father died on August 18, 1945 in Taipei. “I hope it is possible to have an independent DNA test of his remains at the Renkoji Temple in Tokyo … hopefully to convince people who believe in outlandish theories … It would be wonderful if my father’s remains could be returned to their homeland during the 125th anniversary, ”he said.
