Smart Anti Airfield Weapon DRDO Successful Flight Test | India News

HYDERABAD: DRDO has successfully conducted a captivity and release test of an intelligent anti-aircraft weapon (SAAW) developed in the Hawk-i country of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) off the coast of Odisha on January 21.
The smart weapon was successfully tested from HAL’s Indian Hawk-Mk132. This was the ninth successful SAAW mission conducted by DRDO so far. It was the launch of a textbook, which met all the mission objectives. Telemetry and tracking systems installed at the Interim Test Range (ITR), Balasore captured all events from the mission, DRDO said.
SAAW is indigenously designed and developed by DRDO’s Imarat Research Center (RCI) Hyderabad. This is a 125kg class smart weapon, capable of targeting ground enemy airfield assets such as radars, bunkers, taxiways and runways, etc. up to a range of 100 kms. The high-precision guided bomb is lightweight compared to the weapon system of the same class. The weapon was previously successfully tested from a Jaguar aircraft.
Dr. G Satheesh Reddy, DDR & D Secretary and DRDO President congratulated the teams involved in the successful trial.
