India Sees 15,000 New Covid Cases; deaths below 200 for the seventh day | India News

Daily Covid-19 casualties in India remained below the 200 mark for the seventh day in a row on Wednesday, even as new cases crossed the 15,000 mark after a three-day interval.
The country registered 151 deaths, which raised the accumulated balance to 1,52,853. With 15,290 recent infections, India’s cumulative case burden reached 10,611,738. Following the downward trend of the pandemic in recent months, new cases dropped by nearly 1,800 compared to last Wednesday, when around 17,000 patients tested positive.
Kerala continued to lead the states in daily infections with 6,815 new cases, up from 6,186 on Tuesday. However, recovery outnumbered new infections, as 7,364 patients were discharged from the hospital. So far 65 people who came from the UK after December 9 have tested positive for Covid-19 and their samples have been duly sent to NIV Pune. The new strain that originated in Great Britain was confirmed in nine of them by NIV Pune.
Maharashtra was the second worst affected state with 3,015 new cases. No other state or territory in the union recorded new cases in four digits, a trend seen in recent weeks. The state continued to record the highest daily casualties with 59 people dying in the past 24 hours, followed by Kerala (18 deaths) and Delhi (10). All other states and territories in the union had deaths in the single digits or no casualties. Although Maharashtra on Wednesday reported an increase in new cases and victims compared to corresponding figures on Tuesday, active cases continued to decline in both the state and Mumbai as hospital discharges outnumbered new infections.
Active cases in the country continued to decline, falling by more than 5,000 on Wednesday to 1,93,828.
