Full resumption of passenger train services may be possible by the end of March | India News

NEW DELHI: There is a possibility that all passenger trains will be fully resumed by the end of March, Ministry of Railways officials said Thursday, even as the railroads are in talks with states in the National Capital Region (NCR ) to resume normal operation of local trains.
“We are hopeful to resume operation of all local, express and mail trains by the end of March,” an official said.
Currently, about 65% of all postal and express trains are in operation. “Every month we are adding about 150 trains and currently 1,130 of these trains are running in addition to commuter rail services in different areas,” said CEO and Chairman of the Railroad Board Suneet Sharma.
Sources said the issue of the operation of local trains connecting various places in the NCR was discussed at a parliamentary committee meeting this week and the railways have assured the panel to speed up the resumption, which will bring great relief to commuters. daily from areas as far as Mathura, Palwal, Aligarh, Rewari and Ghaziabad. Currently, only a few trains are running for rail employees.
Before the pandemic, more than 100 local trains of this type operated between Delhi and nearby areas. “We are aware of the situation. But we have to follow the process and take sufficient precautions considering the Covid-19 situation,” an official said.
