CDS Gen Bipin Rawat to fly French Rafale fighter | India News


JODHPUR: In the ongoing Indo-French war games, Desert Knight-21, the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Bipin Rawat, will undertake a sortie in the French Rafale fighters on Thursday.
“The CDS would be informed about the war games and how the whole exercise it would improve interoperability between the air forces of the two countries, “Indian Air Force officials told ANI.
Aside from the operational briefing, the CDS would conduct an outing in the French Air Force Rafale fighter for nearly an hour and would be familiar with the most advanced fighter in the French and Indian Air Forces inventories.
The Indian Air Force launched the first major international war games with its Rafale fighter jets in Jodhpur on Wednesday with their French counterparts.
As part of the first edition of exercise Desert Knight-21, four French Rafale fighters landed in Jodhpur after flying directly for about four hours from Djibouti air base using their A-330 multi-role tanker transport aircraft that also landed here.
Exercise Desert Knight-21 will be held at Jodhpur Air Force Station from January 20-24 this year.
The French participate with Rafale, Airbus A-330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT), A-400M tactical transport aircraft and approximately 175 people.
Indian Air Force aircraft participating in the exercise include Mirage 2000, Su-30 MKI, Rafale, IL-78 refueling aircraft, Airborne Early Warning and Control System (AWACS), and AEW & C aircraft.
The exercise marks an important milestone in the series of clashes between the two air forces.
As part of the Indo-French defense cooperation, the Indian Air Force and the French Air and Space Force carried out six editions of air exercises called ‘Garuda’, the last in 2019 at Mont-de Air Force Base. Marsan in France.
As measures to promote existing cooperation, the two forces have been profitably using the opportunities available for “jumping exercises.”
The deployment of the French Air and Space Force, while being transported to Australia for Ex Pitchblack in 2018, was organized by the IAF at the air force stations in Agra and Gwalior to exercise with fighters and MRTT aircraft.
Currently, the French Ex Desert Knight-21 detachment is deployed to Asia as part of its ‘Skyros Deployment’ and has transported forces to Jodhpur Air Force Station. (AND ME)
