TRP Manipulation Scam: Court Rejects Bail Statement From Former BARC CEO India News

MUMBAI: A local court on Monday rejected the bail statement of Partho Dasgupta, former executive director of the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), who was arrested in the alleged manipulation of the TRP (Television Rating Points) scam.
Dasgupta had filed an application for bail on December 30 after the court referred him to judicial custody.
On Monday, a Mumbai metropolitan magistrates court rejected Dasgupta’s request.
Dasgupta’s defender, Kamlesh Ghumre, said an appeal would be filed in the session court this week.
In his application, Dasgupta had stated that he was only an employee of the BARC and not a “total and sole (authority)”, and that there is a board of directors and a disciplinary committee above him on the council.
However, the criminal branch of the Mumbai police had argued that Dasgupta, in collusion with another senior BARC official and the owner of ARG Outlier Media Pvt Ltd, Arnab Goswami, manipulated the PRTs of Republic TV and Republic Bharat (Hindi) .
The police had claimed that Goswami paid thousands of rupees to Dasgupta in exchange for the manipulation.
