US Congress criticizes China’s hostility in LAC | India News

WASHINGTON: A bipartisan disposition of Congress condemning China’s aggression toward India has become law, as the United States Congress overruled President Donald Trump’s veto on the $ 740,000 defense policy bill million, which among other things, included calling the Chinese government for its actions in LAC.
The 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, which became law on Friday after Congress overrode Trump’s veto, included a resolution urging China to end its military aggression against India throughout LAC.
Trump vetoed the NDAA, which had bipartisan support, on December 23, arguing that it had provisions that would harm national security.
When Congress dealt a humiliating blow to Trump in his final days in office, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi said: “Through today’s Senate vote, Congress has signed the NDAA into law, including elements of my resolution calling for China to end its military aggression against India and others in the wider Indo-Pacific region. ”
The U.S. House and Senate on December 15 passed the $ 740 billion NDAA, which included key components of Krishnamoorthi’s resolution language urging the Chinese government to end its military aggression against India throughout LAC.
Krishnamoorthi said: “The Chinese military’s aggression throughout LAC with India and elsewhere is unacceptable, and the passage of this legislation sends a clear message of support to India and our other partners as we begin the New Year.”
Expressing “significant concern” about China’s continued military aggression along the border with India, the NDAA says that China “should work with” India to reduce the situation throughout LAC through existing diplomatic mechanisms and refrain from attempting to resolve disputes through coercion. or strength. China’s attempts to promote unfounded territorial claims, including those from the South China Sea, are inconsistent with international law, the bill says.
