Drug regulator gives final approval for IBS Covid-19 vaccines, Bharat Biotech – health

The Controller General of Drugs of India (DCGI) formally announced on Sunday the final approval of the Oxford-AstraZeneca and Bharat Biotech vaccines against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) for emergency use. “CDSCO (Central Standard Medicines Control Organization) accepts the reform rations from the expert committee on the subject on Covid serum and Bharat Biotech vaccines,” DCGI VG Somani said at a press conference.

The CDSCO’s subject matter expert committee (SEC) had recommended the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, which is being manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII) as Covishield, for emergency use and Covaxin for restricted use. Covaxin is the indigenous vaccine being developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR).
