25-year-old man killed in Panipat for alleged hate crime

A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death in the Haryana Panipat, allegedly by relatives of his wife who were against inter-caste marriage.

The deceased has been identified as Neeraj Kumar from Bhola Chowk in Panipat. According to police, the incident occurred in the busy Panipat market area on Friday night, and the defendant can be seen fleeing on CCTV video from cameras installed in the town.

Neeraj and Komal (21), who lived in the same town, were married almost 45 days ago in a local court. The woman’s relatives, however, were not happy with the union since the man belonged to the Other Backward Classes while the woman belonged to the Programmed Caste, reads the complaint filed by Gulshan Kumar, father of the deceased.

Kumar alleged that Komal’s brother, Vijay Kumar, alias Chhota, and his cousin Pawan Kumar were not happy with their marriage and had threatened to kill him a few days ago.

“On the basis of the complaint filed by Neeraj’s family, an FIR has been registered against Pawan Kumar and Vijay Kumar under sections 302 and 34 of the Panel Code of India and sections 25 and 54 of the Indian Law.
