AAP extended legal assistance to farmers against BJP leaders for libelous comments: Chadha
Raghav Chadha, Punjab coordinator of the newly appointed Aam Aadmi Party, said on Saturday that his party has decided to offer legal assistance to farmers who have decided to go to court against alleged defamatory remarks by Bharatiya Janata Party leaders.
“If someone abuses an honest farmer, it is similar to abusing Mother India,” said Chadha, who is visiting the state.
Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, a farmer from Amritsar; Ramneek Singh Randhawa of Jalandhar and Sukhwinder Singh Sidhu of Sangrur have brought defamation cases against certain BJP leaders for their alleged derogatory statements about farmers protesting at the Delhi borders against recently enacted farm legislation.
“The farmers had been asking the central government led by (Narendra) Modi to listen to them and repeal the farm laws, but in turn they only suffered abuse. BJP leaders have at different times described the farmers as terrorists, anti-nationals, agents of Pakistan and China. I would like to tell BJP that our farmers have had enough, ”said Chadha.
“The party promises to support the farmers in their fight until the BJP leaders are punished. From filing a case to fighting in court, AAP will work with farmers, ”he added.
