Two leopards found dead in Kumaon of Uttarakhand in 2 days
Two leopard carcasses were recovered from the forests of the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand in the past two days, forestry officials said.
The carcass of a 12-year-old female leopard was found in Bageshwar district on Thursday night and a four-year-old female leopard was found dead in Ramnagar in Nainital district on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the leopard was found dead in the Majiyakhet forests in the Bageshwar Forest Division.
BS Shaahi, Bageshwar Divisional Forestry Officer said: “On Thursday night, the villagers of Majiyakhet village saw the leopard carcass and reported it to us. Our team rushed to the scene and after recovering the body, it was sent for a post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report is received. ”
This is the fourth leopard carcass found in the Kumaon region in a month. On December 11, a four-year-old leopard was found dead in Ramnagar. On December 1, the corpse of a three-year-old leopard cub who died in a traffic accident was found on the Ramnagar-Manglar highway in Nainital.
Prior to this, on October 17, a one-year-old leopard cub was found dead in Pithoragarh. In October, three leopard fetuses were also found in the Almora district.
