CM Bhupesh Baghel complains to Prime Minister Modi about delay in purchasing rice

Chhattisgarh Prime Minister Bhupesh Baghel spoke by phone with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday and informed him about the delay in permitting the acquisition of rice in the Kharif 2020-21 business year.

A press release issued by the Chhattisgarh government stated that Prime Minister Modi assured the CM that he would take appropriate action in this regard.

On Wednesday, in a letter to Prime Minister Modi, CM Baghel had said that the Center had given “ approval in principle ” to deposit 60 lakh metric tons of rice in the central depot after custom milling of rice obtained from the state farmers in the Kharif marketing season.

“Following the approval, the state government started purchasing Minimum Support Price (MSP) rice from December 1 and so far, around 47 lakh tonnes of 12 lakh rice have been purchased from farmers. But the necessary permission is still awaited for the delivery of rice after the custom milling of the rice purchased from the FCI for the central pool of the Center’s Food and Public Distribution Department, ”the letter said.

Baghel said that this delay in the process of lifting the rice by the FCI affected the rice procurement campaign.

“A large amount of rice has accumulated in the supply centers because the rice is not lifted for the central warehouse. The delay in the timely disposal of the rice could damage the product, ”Baghel said.

He further said that the Center agreed to provide only 1.45 lakhs of new jute jute bags to the state against the demand for 3.50 lakh of jute jute bags and so far only 1.05 lakh of jute bags have been provided. jute sacks.

In the letter, he urged the Center to comply with the demands of the state government so that it can continue buying rice in the state.

Meanwhile, the BJP leaders claimed that the state government is trying to hide the failure in acquiring rice in the state.

“Most of the farmers in the state are suffering by selling their rice in shopping centers. The government has done nothing for the farmers; they are only making fun of acquisitions. Thousands of farmers are not receiving a token for the sale of rice … They are simply not prepared and failed, ”said Sacchinand Upasane, leader and spokesperson of the BJP.
