Trains will not have to slow down on new 351km freight corridors | India News

NEW DELHI: Unlike all other rail routes, freight trains on the 351 km New Bhaupur-New Khurja section of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor will not need to slow down along this stretch. Sources said this will be one of the unique features of the two dedicated brokers.
An official said the train that was stopped by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday at a designated speed of 60 kilometers per hour clocked 59.6 kilometers per hour for the entire run. While the design speed of even the fastest passenger trains such as Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express is higher, the average speed drops as several sections have to be slowed down.
“One of the reasons no train would be required to slow down is our good maintenance practice, which would be strictly followed,” the rail official said. Work on both east and west dedicated freight corridors picked up speed in recent months after the prime minister held a review meeting on progress. While expressing his disgust at the delay, he had asked Rail Minister Piyush Goyal to hold a weekly review meeting.
