48L of jewelry found in the locker of the former CEO of BARC | India News

MUMBAI: The Criminal Intelligence Unit investigating the TRP tampering scam on Tuesday conducted a search of the bank locker of the arrested former CEO of the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), Partho Dasgupta, and claimed to have recovered 1.3 kg of gold and silver ornaments collectively valued at Rs 48 lakh.
Dasgupta was brought before the Esplanade Metropolitan Trial Court on Wednesday, which referred him to judicial custody.
Dasgupta’s attorney, Kailash Ghumre, has alleged that searching his locker is illegal. He said, “The bank locker is in his wife’s name, and the police didn’t even wait for his wife to arrive. They organized a locksmith and opened the locker. This is not a bank or anti-corruption scam.”
Ghumre also denied allegations that Republic TV’s Arnab Goswami paid huge sums of money to Dasgupta for manipulating the TRPs. “The statement was taken under duress,” Ghumre said.
