Karnataka council vice chairman, SL Dharme Gowda, found dead near the train track
Karnataka Legislative Council Vice Chairman SL Dharme Gowda was found dead near a railway line in Kadur, in the state’s Chikmagalur district, police said Tuesday.
Gowda is suspected, police say, of committing suicide. Police are examining an alleged death note found near his body.
The politician left his home on Monday night around 7.30pm, police say, without informing his security team. The police are conducting further investigations.
The JD (S) MLC is said to have been distraught over the way some members treated him during the chaos at the council.
During the council’s one-day proceedings, Gowda was pushed and shoved by angry members of Congress who said only the president can preside over the House.
“It is shocking to hear the news of the suicide of the vice president of the State Legislative Council and leader of JDS, SL Dharmegowda. He was a quiet and decent man. This is a loss of the state, ”the ANI news agency said, quoting HD Deve Gowda, former prime minister and leader of JDS.
