Will also snatch Rae Bareli in 2024: Smiti Irani Message Congress
The BJP will also seize Rae Bareli in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, declared Union Minister Smriti Irani in Uttar Pradesh while visiting her constituency Amethi, where the BJP leader proved to be a great assassin when he defeated Rahul Gandhi during the 2019 general election..
Irani, who began her three-day tour of Amethi on Friday, paid a quick visit to Rae Bareli, the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi since 2004.
The minister had also visited Lucknow for a meeting with the chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, before returning to her constituency to make the statement on “taking Rae Bareli away.”
“Remember, if you continue to harass the BJP workers, in 2024 we will also capture Rae Bareli,” Smriti said at a public meeting.
Keeping up the attack on the Gandhi family, Irani challenged Rahul Gandhi to a debate on the issue of farmers and raised questions about the Kisan Yatra proposed by Congress Secretary General Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at UP, describing it as a stunt.
The trade union minister for textiles and women and child development also tagged a tweet by BJP chief JP Nadda to question Rahul Gandhi’s opposition to farm laws. She tweeted that Amethi farmers, fed up with Congress, voted for the BJP in the latest Lok Sabha polls.
Farmers, camping on the borders of Delhi for a month, have been demanding the total repeal of new reform-oriented laws that provide for the creation of private markets outside designated mandis, allow contract farming without government regulation and also lift storage limits for Agricultural Products.
Congress called Iran’s declaration a political stance. Local BJP leaders said his statement reflected that he had the backing of top party leaders.
Congressional lawmaker Deepak Singh, who is a native of Amethi, sent a letter to Smriti Irani, requesting her answer to five questions that included charges against her family.
“Unless you respond to these inquiries, all the charges against you will be presumed to be true,” Deepak Singh wrote to Smriti.
The MLC Congress had previously described Smriti as a “political tourist” in Amethi.
The union minister also spoke of projects implemented for Amethi since she became a local deputy in 2019, but party leaders said that Yogi Adityanath’s government had also sanctioned important projects for Rae Bareli.
Apart from AIIMS-Rae Bareli, the Ganga highway, which would connect Meerut with Prayagraj, will pass through Rae Bareli. Pacts with private investors for manufacturers and the railroad car feeder factory, a spice park for the mint research, have been sanctioned for the only surviving stronghold of Congress in the state, party leaders said.
This was evident when Senior Deputy Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who also heads the state’s public works department (PWD), dedicated Rs 79.5 crore plans for Amethi even as Smriti Irani pushed for more roads worth 112 million rupees for your constituency.
After Amethi, Maurya visited the Bachhrawan assembly segment, part of the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency, and announced plans worth several crore rupees. This mounting segment was won by the BJP in the 2017 polls.
The minister ended her visit by listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s radio show, Mann ki Baat, in the assembly segment of the Rae Bareli Hall. Like Bachhrawan, Salon was also won by the BJP. Of the five montage segments that make up Rae Bareli, the BJP had won three in the 2017 UP polls before Smriti Irani’s impressive victory at Amethi two years later.
