NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has suspended the central government order ordering three eminent artists, including two Padmashri winners, to vacate the accommodation provided to them for their extraordinary contribution in the field of art.
Judge Naveen Chawla said: “There will be a suspension of the operation of the challenged order dated October 9, 2020, until the next hearing date. However, this order will not prevent the defendants from considering the petitioners’ representation and communicating the decision in this regard to the petitioners ”. The matter will be heard again on January 22.
The petition submitted by Bharati Shivaji, V Jayarama Rao, and Banasri Rao indicated that the petitioners were seniors, who had no alternative accommodation in Delhi, except for the government accommodation that was granted to them in 1987.
Their eviction notices indicated that their stay had been illegal since 2014 and they were ordered to vacate the premises by December 31.
