Al-Badr Duo Killed in Meeting with Shopian | India News

SRINAGAR: Two Al-Badr terrorists were killed and an equal number of security men were injured in a counterterrorism operation in the Shopian district of southern Kashmir on Saturday, police said.
The operation began on Friday afternoon after a joint team from the Army, CRPF and J&K Police cordoned off the Kanigam Imam Sahib area and launched an intelligence-based search for the presence of terrorists there. Two members of the security personnel suffered gunshot wounds when hidden ultras opened fire on the search party before escaping to another location.
The injured personnel were taken to Srinagar Base 92 Hospital, while the operation was called off later that night as night fell. The meeting resumed on Saturday morning when security forces concentrated on the house where the terrorists were suspected of hiding. When the house was blown up with explosives, the ultras managed to take refuge in another but eventually died, police said.
The slain Al-Badr duo were identified as Asif Ahmad Lone of Shopian and Owais Farooq of Pulwama, police said. The Shopian administration temporarily suspended mobile internet services in the district as a precaution.
