3rd serological survey to cover health workers: ICMR | India News

PUNE: A third Covid-19 serosurvey is established by the Indian Council of Medical Research to assess the spread of infection among healthcare workers in India.
The poll, which began Thursday, is expected to conclude in late January. It will test 29,000 people and health workers in 70 districts, the same places as the second survey. ICMR Director of Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases, Dr. Samiran Panda, said the survey results should be released before priority vaccination for healthcare workers begins.
The second serological survey had studied infection trends in children older than 10 years. Covid trends among medical staff could help authorities finalize target areas for priority vaccination. Dr. Manoj Murhekar, director of the National Institute of Epidemiology, which is running the survey, said the goal is to understand the prevalence of infection and levels of immunity in a large representative population.
