NEW DELHI: India said on Thursday it looked forward to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s visit next month, amid reports that the trip might not be possible due to the rapid spread of the mutated version of the coronavirus in the UK. .
“We had invited the UK Prime Minister as the main guest at the Republic Day parade in 2021. When UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab was here he publicly confirmed his acceptance. So we look forward to welcoming to the prime minister here. ” Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Srivastava said.
He was asked at a press conference about reports that Johnson may not be able to visit India next month.
UK Foreign Secretary Raab visited India last week apparently to pave the way for Johnson’s trip.
“The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom has accepted the generous invitation to attend the Indian Republic Day celebrations (as the main guest) in January, which is a great honor,” Raab said at a joint press conference with his Indian counterpart, S Jaishankar.
