Islamabad: The Pakistani military claimed on Wednesday that a 50-year-old woman had been killed and three other civilians had been injured by Indian shelling in Pakistani-occupied Kashmir on Tuesday.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media arm of the army, alleged that Indian troops resorted to unprovoked bombing and attacked civilians with mortars and heavy weapons in the Tatta Pani and Jandrot sectors along the Control Line. Among the injured was a four-year-old boy, ISPR said.
The ISPR reported the shelling incidents hours before the Pakistani army chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, visited Pakistani troops stationed at the LoC.
Tension at the LoC has been high for the past two years and both countries routinely blame each other for ceasefire violations.
“These egregious violations of international law reflect India’s constant attempts to escalate the situation throughout the LdC and are a threat to regional peace and security,” read a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan on Wednesday.
