NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, Congress alleged a “vile and inexplicable” link “between BJP, BS Yeddyurappa and corruption,” and demanded that the Karnataka CM step down immediately if it had any “shame”.
Karnataka’s high court had on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking to quash the criminal proceedings against the CM in the denotation case for illegal land while harshly criticizing Lokayukta police for not completing the investigation in the past five years, PTI reported. The HC also ordered the Lokayukta special court to oversee the court-ordered investigation into the misconduct of parliamentarians, MLAs involved in criminal offenses.
Congressional spokesman and Supreme Court attorney Abhishek Singhvi referred to HC’s order and demanded that Yeddyurappa resign. He also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Interior Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda for their “guilty and conspiratorial silence” on the “bow of immunity” granted to Yeddyurappa by the party and the Center. “They give homilies on corruption to the whole world, but they lack shame when it comes to themselves. We are waiting for the prime minister to make his ‘Raj Dharma’ and his ‘constitutional dharma’ by eliminating Yeddyurappa, “he said.
