Baghpat agricultural union meets with Tomar and pledges to support the laws
A delegation from Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Sangh, a Baghpat farmers union in Uttar Pradesh, met with the Union’s agriculture minister, Narendra Singh Tomar, on Wednesday and pledged their support for the three new agricultural laws.
“The Modi government is open to meeting with all farmers’ organizations and is committed to solving their problems. Almost 3 lakh farmers have supported the laws. Their voices must be heard, ”Tomar told reporters.
In a tweet, he said that farmers told him the laws were in the interest of farmers and should not be withdrawn.
Farmers have been protesting on the borders of Delhi since November 26 against three agricultural laws recently enacted by the government. They have been protesting the Agricultural Products Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act of 2020; the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Guarantee and the Agricultural Services Act of 2020 and the Essential Products (Amendment) Act of 2020.
