Kisan Diwas: Everything You Need To Know About Farmer’s Day | India News

NEW DELHI: Indians observed Kisan Diwas on Wednesday, which is celebrated on the anniversary of the birth of the fifth Prime Minister of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh.
Known as the champion of Indian peasants, the former prime minister played a pivotal role in empowering farmers.
Charan Singh introduced the Agricultural Products Market Bill and abolished the zamindari of Uttar Pradesh through the Zamindari Abolition Act of 1950 and introduced the Land Tenure Act of 1960.
He also served as Prime Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Deputy Prime Minister of India, Ministry of the Interior and Minister of Finance.
The day also marks a significance among farmers protesting the controversial farm laws that the Center has introduced.
The group of 40 protesting farmers’ unions, which previously participated in talks with the Center, decided unanimously on Tuesday to respond to its proposal for further talks on Wednesday, marked nationwide as’ Kisan Diwas’, and to reiterate its demand for repeal of the three new agricultural laws.
