BJP’s Ujjain MP Leads Survey of Most Helpful MPs During Covid Lockdown; Rahul Gandhi at no. 3 place | India News

NEW DELHI: A survey by a New Delhi-based citizen engagement platform, GovernEye, found that BJP Ujjain MP Anil Firojiya, YSRCP Nellore MP Adala Prabhakara Reddy, and former Head of Congress and MP of Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi, provided maximum assistance to their constituents during the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
Launched on October 1, the poll initially shortlisted 25 Lok Sabha MPs based on the nominations received in their favor. Following field polls in their constituencies and comments on the ground, the list was narrowed down to the top 10 names.
Speaking to TOI, Ujjain MP Anil Firojiya said: “When the pandemic started, Ujjain had the highest death rate of 30%. I established a call center to serve as a liaison between patients, their families and the district administration to ensure that patients received good medical care. With the help of the CM, I also got 250 allocated beds for my constituency patients in Indore and Dewas, and five life support ambulances. The coronavirus death rate in Ujjain has now dropped to 1%. ”
Speaking to TOI, Rahul Gandhi’s constituency assistant said: “After the sudden lockdown, Rahul ji worked closely with the district administration to improve the health infrastructure. He ran masks, hand sanitizers, hand thermometers and fans, which were in short supply. He extended his support to people from Wayanad and the rest of Kerala stranded in different parts of India and abroad who needed logistical support. We operate trains and buses to take people home, provide food packages, offer monetary assistance and help run community kitchens so that no one will go hungry. ”
While Firojia, Reddy and Gandhi were in the top three, other MPs who received recognition for their efforts during the pandemic were TMC MP Mahua Moitra, BJP South Bangalore MP, Tejasvi Surya, Nashik MP Shiv Sena Hemant Godse, Shiromani Akali MP Sukhbir Badal, Indore BJP MP Shankar Lalwani, Chennai South INC MP T Sumathy and Nagpur MP Nitin Gadkari.
The survey, conducted six months after the pandemic-induced shutdown, sought to identify the most helpful Lok Sabha MPs and identify key lessons learned during crises. It received 34.23 lakh nominations for MPs from across the country and the final list was consolidated based on feedback from local people on the efforts made by their MPs during the shutdown.
