Air Quality Commission orders shift of all industries in Delhi to PNG


The Air Quality Management Commission on Tuesday stressed the need to switch all industries in Delhi NCR to piped natural gas (PNG), adding that the industrial sector is a major contributor to air pollution here. .

The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Contiguous Areas reviewed the progress of the shift from industries operating in Delhi to PNG during a meeting, which was attended by representatives of the city government, Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL ) and Indraprastha. Limited Gas (IGL).

According to the statement from the Ministry of the Environment, Forests and Climate Change, around 1,644 industrial units spread over 50 industrial areas had been identified to switch to PNG. Although a significant number of industries are using PNG, the Commission highlighted the need for all industries identified in Delhi to move to PNG.

The IGL, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and the Delhi government were also asked to work closely with the industrial units to aim for the completion of the infrastructure works and the switch to PNG by 31 January 2021.

The DPCC was also instructed to inspect and identify industries that use unapproved fuels and to take strict criminal measures in case of non-compliance, the statement added.
