Shiv Sena Attacks Prime Minister Over Gurdwara Visit Amid Farmer Upheaval | India News

MUMBAI: The Shiv Sena wondered on Tuesday what will be the outcome of the ongoing farmers’ protest after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited a gurdwara and sought inspiration from Guru Tegh Bahadur, whose supporters are among those protesters.
An editorial in Sena spokesman ‘Saamana’ referred to Modi’s visit on Sunday to Gurdwara Rakabganj in Delhi, where he paid tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur for his supreme sacrifice.
Guru Teg Bahadur, whose death anniversary was celebrated on Saturday, was cremated at Gurdwara Rakabganj.
Thousands of farmers, including Sikhs, have been protesting near Delhi’s borders since November 26 against the Modi government’s three new agricultural laws.
The editorial in the Marathi daily said that Punjab farmers were unfazed even when Modi arrived at the gurdwara, “turning his back on the Sikh peasant protest,” and continued with their demonstration.
“Prime Minister Modi looked to Guru Tegh Bahadur for inspiration. Happy about that. Thousands of Sikh fighters are also fighting (protesting) with the same inspiration near the Delhi border. So it is a question what will be the outcome of the battle, “editorial said.
It said that “gurbani” was being played when the prime minister arrived at the gurdwara.
The gurbani says service and devotion to God will be useless if one does not change his thoughts, the editorial noted.
The gurbani says that reading the religious holy book several times will be of no use if one does not understand its teachings, and also asks what one will do when their time comes and an account of their actions is verified, he said.
The gurbani mentions that no one could defend themselves from the weather, he added.
“It is not correct” for Modis’ political opponents to criticize him for everything he does, the editorial said in a cryptic comment, asking what is there to be uneasy if he visits the gurdwara.
Modis’s opponents allege “politics” behind the prime ministers’ visit to the gurdwara and ask why Punjab farmers protest in the cold if he loves Sikhs so much, he said.
“… but no one should question Modi’s faith. Guru Tegh Bahadur was a great saint. The Guru accepted martyrdom for humanity, principles and ideals … he was the protector of religion. Therefore, not just Sikhs, everyone on this earth should bow down to Guru Tegh Bahadur, “the editorial read.
