RAIPUR: Four members of a family, including two women, were killed and an 11-year-old boy came out fighting for his life in a savage attack in a town in Durg on Sunday. Police believe the killers are close to the family, but are not yet sure why.
The murders have rocked the state. DGP DM Awasthi drove to Khudmuda village on Monday to inspect the crime scene, together with Durg SP Prashant Singh Thakur. He has created special teams to investigate the murders.
The victims lived on the outskirts of Khudmuda. On Monday morning, when the villagers were awake, they saw 28-year-old Kirti Sonkar lying in a pool of blood on the doorstep of her house, her head hit with a large stone. The alarm sounded and the villagers ran towards the house. The police were called. They broke down the door and found Kirti’s son unconscious on the bed, with injuries all over his body. The body of his mother-in-law, Dulari, 60, was found floating in an open water tank in the backyard of the home. The husbands of both women were nowhere to be found until a sniffer dog led police to another water tank where the bodies of Balraj 62 and their 30-year-old son Rohit were found.
Investigators suspect a relative’s involvement and a family feud as there is no evidence of loot.
