India should not worry about our ties to Pakistan: Russia | India News

NEW DELHI: Russia said on Monday that India should not worry about its relationship with Pakistan, but noted that Moscow is committed to developing ties with Islamabad as a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Russian Deputy Chief of Mission Roman Babushkin said Russia’s ties with Pakistan are “independent” in nature and that his government is conscious of respecting the sensitivities of other countries.
“We don’t think India should worry,” he told a news conference when asked about Russia’s military exercises with Pakistan, as well as trade cooperation.
“Russia is very cautious when it comes to respecting sensitivities. But at the same time, we regard our relationship with Pakistan as independent in nature and we also have a bilateral trade and economic agenda. We are quite committed to further developing this relationship, including from the view that Pakistan is a partner country under the SCO, “said Babushkin.
He said that the basic principle of Russian foreign policy is to have bilateral relations that are not directed against any other country.
“This is the very important principle that we follow when it comes to cooperation with all countries in the world, including Pakistan and many others,” he said.
The Russian diplomat also mentioned the increasing defense and security ties between India and Russia and even referred to the extensive military exercises between the two countries and the cooperation between them that are contributing to regional stability.
Babushkin said that the military exercises with Pakistan were part of the counterterrorism framework and that such collaborations, including sharing experiences and building capacities, is natural for all SCO member states.
The SCO is an eight-nation bloc that is largely dominated by Russia and China, and is increasingly seen as a counterweight to NATO. India and Pakistan became permanent members of the SCO in 2017.
In the briefing, Russian Ambassador Nikolay Kudashev mentioned the various facets of India-Russia ties, noting that the special and privileged strategic partnership means that the relations between the two countries are “limitless, and remain reliable, strong and consistent. despite current global turbulence. “.
On Russia’s ties with Pakistan, Kudashev said its content corresponds to issues such as regional stability, the fight against terrorism and the threat of drugs.
“Naturally, economic cooperation is key for progress and predictability here,” he said at the joint press conference with Babushkin.
Pakistan and Russia have been conducting military exercises for the past years in the field of counter-terrorism.
The two sides are also trying to expand ties in the field of trade and have completed a gas pipeline project.
