Center trying to smear farmers: Sukhbir Badal | India News

CHAMKAUR SAHIB: Shiromani Akali Dal boss Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday accused the Center of trying to “smear” farmer agitators by raising the “specter of talks” to create an impression that it is reasonable and that the farmers are wrong. , according to a statement.
After paying tribute at Gurudwara Katalgarh Sahib on the occasion of Shaheedi Jor Mela, Badal said: “The Center is trying to tire farmers by starting conversations from the beginning again. This is a useless exercise when farmers’ organizations have already rejected the three agricultural laws and want them repealed ”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi should call an emergency session of Parliament and repeal these acts, the SAD chief said, adding that the people have the last word in a democracy.
“The people have appointed Narendra Modi prime minister and it is his duty to listen to the voice of the people,” said Badal, whose party previously withdrew from the National Democratic Alliance over agricultural laws.
He said that instead of doing this, the Center first “linked the unrest with religion and separatists and now pitting brother against brother.”
“We have always fought for the rights of farmers and the oppressed. We are also helping the agitation of farmers, but it pains us that the Union government is not moved by the suffering of farmers, “said Badal.
The SAD chief also accused the Center of “misusing” the Income Tax Department to attack the “arhtiyas” (commission agents).
“I warn the Center that the more it tries to suppress the ongoing turmoil, the stronger it will become,” he said.
Later, Badal, after his party’s central committee meeting in Chandigarh, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should not “avoid” holding a special session of Parliament to repeal the three laws.
“The removal of the winter session of parliament has already sent a very wrong message that the central government is running away from discussing the three laws that were passed in the last session. The government should hold an emergency session to resolve all complaints from farmers, “he added.
At the meeting, it was decided that the party subcommittee consisting of senior leaders Balwinder Singh Bhundur, Prem Singh Chandumajra and Sikander Singh Maluka will meet in the coming days with like-minded parties to work out a joint strategy to force the Center to repeal the three laws. .
The subcommittee will also initiate discussions with other parties to ensure the implementation of a federal structure in which the powers of the states have not been “abrogated” by the Union government, according to a party statement.
SAD has also decided to celebrate “akhand Path” (continuous recitation of religious texts) starting on January 2 to commemorate the “sacrifice” of Sikh preacher Sant Ram Singh and others who died during the ongoing farmers’ upheaval.
