Sharad Pawar backs Mamata Banerjee, opposes Center “interference” | India News

CALCUTTA: Joining a growing list of non-BJP stalwarts defending Mamata Banerjee in the center-state battle for IPS delegations, PCN chief Sharad Pawar called the Bengal CM on Sunday to propose a Largest opposition alliance against “repeated interference” by the NDA government in the workings of the federal system and its handling of agricultural unrest.
The Rajya Sabha member and former Union agriculture minister expressed his wish to visit Kolkata in January and attend a rally next to Mamata.
The sources said there was a possibility that the Bengal CM would visit Delhi before that for a meeting of opposition parties that have raised objections to the new agricultural laws.
A grateful Mamata tweeted Sunday: “The Center is blatantly interfering with the functioning of the state government by transferring police officers. My thanks to Bhupesh Baghel, Arvind Kejriwal, Amarinder Singh, Ashok Gehlot and MK Stalin for showing solidarity with the people of Bengal and reaffirming their commitment to federalism. Thank you. “Bengal is said to be considering legal recourse if the Center does not back down on the issue.
