Kamal Haasan Criticizes Anna University’s Government Venture Capital Research
Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan endorsed Anna University Vice Chancellor MK Surappa on Saturday, who faces an investigation on corruption charges.
“When he was appointed, we raised questions if no one else is qualified in Tamil Nadu for this position,” Haasan said. “That question remains, but Surappa is an honest man who is being persecuted for his honesty.” He added that his Makkal Needhi Maiam party would not be a silent spectator even though “they may differ from Surappa’s political ideology.”
Last month, the Tamil Nadu government asked the retired high court judge P Kalaiyarasan to investigate charges of financial irregularities and malpractices against Surappa.
“They have formed a commission of inquiry based on an anonymous letter written by a coward,” Haasan said.
Surappa has said the government should have consulted him before ordering the investigation, as the complaints were anonymous.
