New Delhi: The Covid-19 vaccine will be administered first to around one crore of public and private sector healthcare workers, and then to around two crore of frontline workers, the Union Health Ministry said in its presentation at the all-party meeting on Friday. sources said.
The presentation was given by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan at the meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In its presentation, the ministry said that the Covid-19 vaccine will first be administered to about one million healthcare workers, including doctors and nurses, the sources said.
From then on, some two million frontline workers will be handed over, such as police and armed forces personnel, and municipal workers, among others, they said.
Floor leaders from all parties in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were invited to attend the virtual meeting that started around 10:30 am.
Sources said that 13 prominent political party leaders who have five or more than five deputies spoke at the meeting.
The opposition leader in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad will speak on behalf of Congress at the meeting, they said.
Sudip Bandyopadhyay from TMC, Sharad Pawar from NCP, Nama Nageswara Rao from TRS and Vinayak Raut from Shiv Sena, among others, will also speak during the meeting, the sources said.
This will be the second meeting of all parties called by the government to discuss the Covid-19 situation since the coronavirus outbreak.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Interior Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan are present at the meeting.
In addition to them, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, and the ministers of state in the same ministry, Arjun Ram Meghwal and V Muraleedharan, who approached the floor leaders for the meeting, will also be part of it.
Bhushan’s presentation explains India’s fight against the pandemic so far.
The meeting also takes on significance as it follows Prime Minister Modi’s visit to pharmaceutical companies in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Pune to review coronavirus vaccine development work there. PTI JTR
