Rajinikanth’s aides urge him to project himself as a CM candidate
Tamil superstar Rajinikanth is being persuaded to project himself as the top ministerial candidate for the 2021 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, a close aide said on Friday, a day after the actor announced his intention to launch a political party in January. 2021 and participate in the elections of the assembly.
“He (Rajinikanth) has taken a firm stance that he will not be the prime minister,” said a person considered close to the actor. “He had made this decision even before announcing his political entry in December 2017. We are trying to convince him to reconsider.”
In March this year, Rajinikanth said he had no desire to be prime minister. “I will be the head of the party,” Rajinikanth said. “We will make an educated, forward-thinking, self-respecting and caring young man sit (in the prime minister’s chair). That person will rule. The party will criticize but will not interfere with your work. But it will not be like the parallel power centers. This is my plan, ”the actor had said.
Political analysts attribute Rajinikanth’s risk-averse personality for not wanting to be the prime ministerial candidate and that was the reason why he did not participate in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“He will probably have a 5% participation in the vote, which can go up to a maximum of 8%, depending on his promises and if he projects himself as a candidate for prime minister,” said political analyst Sriram Seshadri. “This number is a luxury for Rajinikanth. He realized that and made a fair assessment of himself and the basic reality. He would probably like to be in the role of a kingmaker so that his stature remains. ”
On Thursday, Rajinikanth made two appointments to his yet-to-be-launched party: his confidant Tamilaruvi Manian as supervisor, while a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member R Arjunamurthy as chief coordinator.
“Their goal is to change the system,” Manian said. “He wants to restore the goodwill of the people by running better candidates as legislators and a prime minister. You are practicing a detached attachment approach. ”
Rajinikanth is willing to start campaigning, say his associates despite his age and health amid the Covid-19 pandemic, which puts him in a high-risk category. Rajinikanth will make more announcements about the party on December 31st.
The issue of a chief ministerial candidate is dominant in the current scenario where the upcoming elections are the first in the absence of Dravidian stalwarts like AIADMK’s J Jayalalithaa and DMK’s M Karunanidhi.
In October, after days of negotiations and disputes within AIADMK, Senior Deputy Minister O Panneerselvam announced that Prime Minister Edappadi Palaniswami will continue as leader for the highest post when they run for the third consecutive term. In the DMK opposition, there are no differences of opinion within the field or with its allies. The leading DMK alliance would fight under MK Stalin, who has been groomed by Karunanidhi for this job for several decades.
Rajinikanth’s contemporary, Kamal Haasan, will compete as the main ministerial face of his Makkal Needhi Maiam party, which made its electoral debut in the 2019 parliamentary elections with a 3.7% vote share.
