After video of a growing crowd celebrating at the engagement ceremony of former Gujarat minister Kanti Gamit’s granddaughter went viral for violating Covid-19 rules, the former minister said Wednesday that it was a mistake. Only a few people were invited and food was prepared for 2,000 people, Gamit said. “I apologize that it was a mistake. We had organized the engagement ceremony for Tulsi Vivah and my granddaughter together, but we did not personally invite anyone. We prepare food for 2000 people and we also organize dances. Someone made the video and it went viral, ”Gamit said after Gujarat police said they were taking action against the organizers.
The event took place on November 30 in the village of Doswada in the Tapi district. It went viral as multiple people could be seen circling, dancing, celebrating the release of the entire Covid-19 warning to the wind.
