Baby allegedly raped in Kanpur while mother was collecting fodder for cattle
A local man allegedly raped a 13-month-old boy in a field in a town of Ghatampur in rural Kanpur on Wednesday night, police said. Villagers caught the man and handed him over to the police.
The circle’s officer, Ravi Pratap Singh, said the man, identified as Umesh Prajapati, was arrested and a case was registered against him under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses) Act. The boy has been admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
Police said the incident occurred after the boy’s mother, along with his father-in-law, had gone out into the field, about 100 meters from their home, to collect fodder for cattle.
Since they both needed to carry heaps of fodder, the mother left the child in a field and decided to pick it up after finishing her work. Soon, they heard the baby screaming and rushed to the scene.
They saw Prajapati flee and the boy bleeding profusely. Other villagers chased Prajapati and caught him.
