Amarinder to meet with Shah ahead of crucial talks between the Center and farmers on Thursday | India News

NEW DELHI / CHANDIGARH: Punjab’s Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will meet Interior Minister Amit Shah at his residence on Thursday, ahead of talks between the Center and farmer leaders about their agitation against the new farm laws .
Sources said Singh will hold discussions with Shah on Thursday morning in Delhi in an effort to find an amicable solution to the deadlock.
Punjab’s chief minister has been supporting the farmers’ uproar and the state assembly also passed a set of laws aimed at denying the Center’s agricultural legislation.
Singh had said that he and his government were willing to mediate talks between the Center and the farmers in the collective interest of all.
The protesting farmers, many of whom are from Punjab, have been holding sit-ins for seven days on the borders of the national capital. They demand that the government withdraw the new farm laws if it wants them to end their uproar.
Peasant leaders and the central government are scheduled to hold another round of discussions on Thursday after a Tuesday meeting was inconclusive.
Farmers unions claim that the new laws will lead to the dismantling of the minimum support price (MSP) system, leaving farmers at the mercy of corporate companies. But the government says the system will continue and the laws will give farmers more options to sell their crops.
