All SCO member states appreciated India hosting the first meeting of SCO Heads of Government: China | India News


BEIJING: China congratulated India on Wednesday for hosting the Heads of Government meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) for the first time, saying that all member states praised the results achieved and thanked India for hosting the conference.
This is the first time that India has hosted the SCO Heads of Government meeting after it joined the eight-member group in 2017.
Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang attended the bloc’s virtual meeting on Monday, which was also addressed by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.
“All parties praised the results achieved and appreciated India as the host of this meeting,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying said at a press conference when responding to a question about India as the venue for its first meeting of Heads of Government of the OCS and its result.
India hosted the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government for the first time. It took place via video link and the leaders talked about how to implement the various outcomes of the summit and they talked about how to improve cooperation in a number of areas and they reached a lot of consensus, “she said.
“China is willing to work with India and other members to coordinate and communicate and work together to elevate the SCO and open another decade of SCO development and cooperation,” he said.
“Members have kept the spirit of Shanghai and could put forward constructive proposals in various areas to enable the SCO to play a positive role in ensuring security and promoting development,” he said.
Hua said Tuesday that “a lot of consensus was reached at the SCO meeting. The leaders also issued a joint statement as they ratified many cooperation documents. There are many positive signs.”
In November, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the SCO Council of Heads of State (SCO-CHS), the highest forum of the SCO, meeting in Russia in virtual format.
The SCO is an economic and security bloc to which India and Pakistan were admitted as full members in 2017. Its founding members include China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
