Initial ‘adverse event’ findings did not require suspension of trials: Government | India News

NEW DELHI: Initial findings about the ‘adverse event’ allegedly suffered by a participant in the Oxford Covid-19 vaccine trial in Chennai did not require stopping the trials, the Center said Tuesday.
It is the role of the drug regulator to determine or refute whether there is any causal link between the event and the intervention, he said.
On the ‘adverse event’ allegation in a Serum Institute trial, the government said it will not affect the timing of vaccines in any way.
A 40-year-old man who volunteered for the third phase of the “Covishield” vaccine trial in Chennai has alleged serious side effects, including virtual neurological collapse and impaired cognitive functions. He has requested compensation of Rs 5 million in legal notice to the Serum Institute and others, in addition to requesting the stay of the trial.
