NEW DELHI: A Border Security Force officer was killed Tuesday by shooting by Pakistani troops along the LoC in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, according to officials.
The shots from across the border in the Tarkundi area of the Mendhar sector were not “provoked”. The shot was met with an “effective” response from the Indian side, officials added.
Frequent violations of the ceasefire by Pakistani soldiers over the past eight months have resulted in serious loss of life and property.
Security forces are also on high alert along the border to thwart Pakistan’s attempts to drop weapons and narcotics via drones.
Last month, three members of the security forces were among six people killed in multiple ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control from the Gurez sector to the Uri sector.
Security forces neutralized another Pakistan’s attempt to infiltrate the LoC when they unearthed a cross-border tunnel allegedly used by four Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists to infiltrate India from the Samba sector.
