NEW DELHI: Attorney General KK Venugopal granted consent to initiate contempt proceedings against comic book artist Rachita Taneja for her alleged objectionable tweets against the Supreme Court.
The sources said Venugopal gave his consent in a letter from a law student who had requested his consent to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Taneja.
“The Attorney General has given his consent to initiate a contempt process against Rachita Taneja,” said the source who knows the fact.
The consent of the attorney general or attorney general is required under section 15 of the contempt of court Act 1971 to initiate contempt proceedings against a person.
