Modi on Farmers’ Turmoil: Decades Deceived Are Behind Confused Farmers | India News

VARANASI: In an indirect response to farmers agitating on Delhi’s borders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that they are misled by those who have kept them abandoned for decades on behalf of the MSP, farm loan exemption schemes.
After inaugurating NHAI’s Varanasi-Prayagraj NH-19 six-lane conversion project at a function in the village of Khajuri here on Monday afternoon, Modi said that no one is stopping anyone from being stuck with old supplies. New farm laws and reforms are an option for farmers to increase their income and even those who seem resentful today will benefit from it, Modi said.
If we had to abolish mandis and MSP, we would not have invested millions of rupees in modernizing mandis and billions to pay as MSP to farmers for their crops of legumes, rice and wheat in five years after the formation of my government in 2014, he said.
