Covid-19: Identify the group of vaccinators, the Center instructs the states | India News

NEW DELHI: The Center has asked states to identify a pool of potential vaccinators and update their details on the Covid Vaccine Intelligence Network (Covin) to support the Covid-19 vaccination campaign.
In a letter to the states, the Health Ministry said that MBBS and BDS doctors, nurses, ANMs, pharmacists, as well as MBBS and BDS interns can be considered potential vaccinators if they have experience in administering injections. Additionally, retired staff may also be considered for the position.
On Sunday, TOI reported that the government was preparing a list of vaccinators to administer the Covid-19 vaccines. While there are around 70,000 vaccinators in the public sector, the private sector is likely to contribute around 30,000 more to inoculate people once a SARS-COV2 vaccine is approved in the country.
“We kindly ask that you instruct the officials concerned to ensure the identification of potential vaccinators mentioned in the database of healthcare workers that is being created for upload to the Covin software. Proper training of potential vaccinators will be carried out before using them for vaccination campaigns against Covid-19, ”said the additional secretary of the Ministry of Health, Vandana Gurnani in the letter.
The National Group of Experts on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19 had recently contacted Ficci, CII, and some large hospital chains to request estimates on the availability of vaccinators that could be dedicated to immunization against Covid-19.
The government plans to use the iGOT digital platform to train new vaccinators. iGOT or Online Training Portal for Integrated Government is a platform for building the capacities of frontline workers to manage the pandemic efficiently. The portal has added many new courses since the beginning of the pandemic to meet the new demand for human resources in healthcare.
