‘Regretting the mistake’: Cong MP Anand Sharma clarifies and amends tweet after seeming to praise Prime Minister Modi
Rajya Sabha congressional deputy Anand Sharma had to issue a clarification and amend his tweet on Sunday when it was interpreted as praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A day after the prime minister visited the vaccine centers in Pune and other cities, Sharma said: “ Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visit to the Serum Institute, Bharat Biotech and Zydus Cadilla was an acknowledgment to Indian scientists and their I work to produce the vaccine for COVID. 19 That alone will boost the morale of the front-line warriors and reassure the nation. ”
The tweet had considerable traction on the microblogging site Twitter, with some asking if it was addressing the Bhartiya Janata Party. Sharma was one of 23 congressional leaders who had written a letter to the president of Congress in August calling for elections to be held at all levels of the party. The letter was seen as an act of rebellion and was not well received by the main leaders of the party.

Seven hours and roughly 400 retweets, hundreds of responses later, Sharma said: “ Regretting the error in our earlier tweet where the lines got misplaced, resulting in avoidable confusion. ” He also noted that his original tweet also included: ” Urge PM to ensure that an efficient and equitable platform is functional when the vaccine arrives. That alone will boost the morale of the frontline warriors and reassure the nation. ”
No comments were available from Congress. Chief spokesman Randeep Surjewala had criticized the prime minister’s visit on Saturday saying it would have been better if he met protesting farmers rather than visiting private companies.
