Convicted in several forage scam cases in December 2017, Lalu was in the Birsa Munda central prison in Ranchi for around two months before being transferred to RIMS for health reasons. It was referred to AIIMS Delhi for a few months before being sent back to RIMS in May 2018.
The Jharkhand BJP said that Lalu’s transfer to the hospital ward meant that the accusations against him were true. The party asked the Jharkhand High Court to take notice suo motu of the alleged violation of prison rules by Lalu under the patronage of the Hemant Soren government.
