Covid-positive Rajasthan Health Minister Goes to Jaywalk Hospital | India News

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Health Minister Raghu Sharma has redefined the phrase ‘going viral’ by choosing to inspect and interact with patients at the hospital where he had been admitted for Covid treatment last Monday. Sharma’s tour of the RUHS Jaipur hospital, a day after he tested positive and opted for hospitalization, on Thursday sparked demands from the opposition that he be booked under the Epidemic Law for allegedly violating Covid protocol.
“Despite testing positive, he walked around the hospital and scoffed at the guidelines, sending the wrong message to people,” BJP’s Kalicharan Saraf, a former health minister, told TOI. Since then, Sharma has moved into domestic isolation.
The next day, Sharma reportedly left her room, with the doctors in tow, and toured the hospital. He had inspected the new 70-bed ICU being built at the hospital and interacted with patients to get feedback on the facilities and the treatment they were being provided, authorities said. The Director of the Sawai Man Singh Medical College, Dr. Sudhir Bhandari, the RUHS Superintendent, Dr. Ajit Singh, and several other doctors and officials accompanied the Minister of Health during the inspection. He claimed to have adhered to security protocol during the inspection.
The hospital administration said the health minister’s meeting with patients was not against the rules. Health Director Dr KK Sharma said: “He (health minister) wore a mask and face shield, as well as following social distancing while meeting other Covid patients.”
