BJP elects Sushil Modi for Bihar Rajya Sabha by-elections | India News

NEW DELHI: BJP has chosen Sushil Modi for the Rajya Sabha of Bihar by-elections.
Modi’s election to the Upper House is almost certain, as the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has a majority in the state assembly.
The election for the seat is scheduled for December 14 if the rival alliance led by RJD decides to compete.
The seat was vacated following the death of the founder of the Lok Janshakti Party and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
Sushil Modi’s passage to Rajya Sabha was more than speculated, after he was not elected as a deputy for Nitish Kumar in the newly formed Bihar cabinet; BJP chose Tarkishore Prasad and Renu instead.
Sushil Modi had been Nitish Kumar’s MP for most of the latter’s previous terms as Bihar CM, except when the JDU ruled with RJD and Congress as its allies.
The BJP’s decision to pick Modi for the Rajya sabha election is seen as an attempt by the party to infuse a new crop of leadership in the state.
