Naidu: Several verdicts raise concerns about judicial overreach | India News

KEVADIA: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said Wednesday that the Supreme Court and higher courts had issued several far-reaching verdicts to advance socio-economic goals in addition to conducting correctional interventions, but concerns were raised about whether the Diwali fireworks orders , the follow-up of the investigations and the judicialization of the appointments, its exclusive domain, meant an interference in the domains of the legislature and the executive.
Speaking at the 80th All India Board Conference in Kevadia, he said there were discussions on whether some issues should have been left more legitimately to other governing bodies.
“For example, the Deepavali fireworks, stopped the registration and movement of vehicles from NCR to Delhi, prohibiting the use of vehicles of a certain brand after 10 or 15 years, monitoring police investigations, denying the executive any role in the Appointment of judges when instituting the college, invalidating the Law of the National Commission of Judicial Responsibility that seeks to guarantee transparency and accountability is being cited as cases of judicial overreach ”, said Naidu.
He said that the legislature, the executive and the judiciary were obligated to work within their respective domains, as defined in the Constitution. “This guarantees a spirit of mutual respect, responsibility and moderation. Unfortunately, there have been several cases of border crossing, ”he added.
Presiding over the opening session, President Ram Nath Kovind urged legislators to ensure courtesy when participating in legislative proceedings. He said that people expected compliance with parliamentary ethics by their elected representatives and it pained them to see the use of non-parliamentary language in House proceedings.
