Odisha orders CID to investigate murder of 5-year-old girl after parents attempted suicide

One day after the parents of a 5-year-old girl from Odisha tried to immolate themselves in front of the State Assembly alleging police inaction in the investigation of their son’s murder and the involvement of a senior BJD minister in the case, the Naveen. The Patnaik government turned the case over to the CID.

On Monday, amid great drama, Ashok Sahu and his wife Soudamini Sahu from Jadupur village in Nayagarh district attempted to immolate themselves after pouring kerosene on their bodies while the Assembly’s winter session was taking place. The couple were detained by the police at the last minute. They said they were frustrated by the inaction of the police in the murder of their 5-year-old daughter Pari, who was abducted while playing outside her village residence in July this year. Pari’s bones and skull were found dumped in the backyard of her home ten days after she disappeared from her home. Later, DNA tests on the bones and on the Sahu couple showed that it was from the 5-year-old girl.

As the BJP opposition and Congress demanded the resignation of the minister believed to be involved, the Minister of State (Home), Captain Dibya Shankar Mishra, said that the state government had decided to hand over the murder case of the five-year-old girl to the CID. This was reported in the State Assembly.

Mishra said polygraph tests of four people were completed in the case. Call detail records on the suspects’ mobile phones have been examined. So far, 34 suspects have been questioned in the case that was registered under sections 363, 364, 302 and 201 of the IPC.

On Monday, the girl’s parents alleged that her body was found in the backyard with her eyes gouged out and her kidneys. “Babuli Nayak, a close associate of the minister along with his accomplices killed her. Even as the months have passed, the defendants get away with impunity. Arun Sahu is protecting criminals ”, alleged the mother of the deceased girl.

Minister Sahoo did not respond to the allegations made by the couple despite several attempts.
