Left Governor in Kerala to Withdraw Controversial Police Law Amendment | India News

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM-led LDF government in Kerala decided on Tuesday to pass an ordinance to withdraw the controversial amendment to the Kerala Police Law.
A special cabinet that met in the afternoon decided to recommend Governor Arif Mohammed Khan to issue an ordinance to repeal Section 118-A which obtained his consent on Saturday.
“The cabinet has decided to pass an ordinance to withdraw the amendment,” government sources told PTI.
Khan had signed the Kerala Police Law amendment ordinance put forward by the Left Front government which provides for the addition of Section 118-A to prevent cyberattacks against women and children.
However, after political protests across the country over the controversial amendment, the left-wing government decided to suspend it on Monday and said further action would be taken on it after detailed discussion in the state Assembly.
Opposition parties and even supporters on the left criticized it, saying it went against freedom of expression and the media.
